Go Low with Your New Pollinator Friendly Garden

There’s a garden that runs the length of our office. This short garden, where all plants remain under two feet tall, offers me an opportunity to experiment with plants that aren’t in my typical plant palette. Most of all, it’s a gorgeous showcase of how we can forgo the lawn and plant for the pollinators without installing a tall, intermingled prairie-inspired garden.

This sloped, well-amended, thus well-draining garden requires very little supplemental watering. Since the soil is loose, weeding it is very easy – dare I say, relaxing. It’s been blooming for well over a month and will continue to bloom, with minimal deadheading, until the first hard frost. It’s constantly beset with skippers and a dizzying array of native bees, and butterflies can often be found visiting the numerous blooms.
