Wimberg Landscaping is celebrating 45 years in business. What began as a neighborhood business in Hyde Park in the 1970’s with Peter and John Wimberg, has grown to a business of around 60 employees, serving over 500 clients on a weekly basis and over 5,000 properties in the Greater Cincinnati area. “We haven’t been a success this long, in a very competitive market, without providing excellent service for our clients,” shares Peter Wimberg. “Where some companies offer one or two landscape services, we provide everything a client will need, from design, and installation to ongoing garden and lawn care, and much more.”
A humble beginning on Menlo Avenue to a larger site on Kellogg Ave quickly called for a move to a larger, and drier location. “There was a bit of excitement one year when CNN filmed us from a helicopter as one of the victims of a flood,” laughs Peter. It’s easy to look back on those days with fond memories when it was just the beginning of what would become a very vibrant and forward-thinking company.
After 23 years at the Madisonville location, Wimberg Landscaping has established its office headquarters in Milford. “It came to the point where we didn’t have room for our sales and design team and the lot couldn’t accommodate our trucks, not to mention everything else that comes with a landscaping company like mowers, plows, plants, and bulk supplies. Running out of space to operate as we should and continue to grow was a good problem to have.”
Wimberg Landscaping is starting its fifth year at the Milford location. “We have 8,000 square feet of office space, and a 5,000 square foot warehouse on five acres. But even better,” Peter stresses, “is the opportunity to create showcase gardens highlighting the exciting movement garden design is taking: one of lush gardens planted with nature.”
The gardens surrounding the Wimberg Landscaping office was awarded the Silver Medal by the Ohio Green Industry Association. Co-designed by Natalie Selker and Jennifer Smith, the gardens are a popular destination for inquisitive gardeners, nature photographers, garden clubs, and was featured on the Cincinnati Nature Center Garden Tour in 2023.
A regular contributor to mentoring programs, networking events, and the casual inquiries regarding what it takes to build a successful business, Peter stresses it’s never just one thing. “We would not have accomplished what we have if all the parts weren’t working in harmony. While we offer a variety of services for the residential market, they all need to be performed by industry professionals. We are constantly trying to always be better. Being named one of Cincinnati’s Top Work Places last year is important to us as owners.”
Wimberg Landscaping has dedicated teams of professionals in lawn care, garden care, and landscape installation. Driving new projects is a team of six sales and design professionals.
“We have sales associates that are fluent in lawn and garden care, and landscape renovations. We also have two LEED certified garden designers, an expert on hardscape design and installation, and an award-winning pollinator garden designer,” shares Peter. “No matter the landscape challenge on hand, we have experts, in house, who can address the issue, formulate a plan, and in the end create a successful landscape and garden.”
Wimberg Landscaping’s ability to exceed their clients’ expectations has earned them the Consumers Choice Award for 11 years in a row.
